Janette “Jan” Garman, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026, at the age of 66, in Helena, MT due to natural causes.
She was born the youngest of four children on May 29, 1959, in Conrad Montana, to Clarence Dupler and Charlotte Dupler. In 1962, her family moved to Clancy Montana, where she was raised. She graduated from Jefferson High School in Boulder Montana, in 1978.
In 1979, she married Joe Bauer, and in 1980 they welcomed their daughter, Amanda (Mandie) into the world. In October of 2005, she married the love of her life, Larry Garman, and warmly welcomed her bonus children, Britney Varhley and Kelby Garman, into her heart.
She was known for her warm heart and joyful spirit. A wonderful listener, she always sought to lift others up and make them feel better. She had an infectious laugh and a love for life, often saying, “Let’s go have fun!” Her greatest joys included being a mom, spending time with her husband and family, working in her greenhouse, planting flowers, and tending to her yard. She was also a devoted fan of the Montana Grizzlies and the Denver Broncos.
She found happiness in the simple pleasures of life—spending time with friends, fishing, floating the Missouri River, going on four-wheeler rides, being outdoors, dancing with Larry, and taking road trips.
She leaves behind her children: Amanda Stewart; Britney Varhley (Andrew Varhley); and Kelby Garman (Janelle Garman). She is remembered by her siblings: Billye Vincent (Vic Vincent) of East Helena, MT; Jerry Dupler (JoAnne Dupler) of Boulder, MT; and Tom Dupler (Joy Dupler) of Helena, MT. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Jillian Stewart, Addison Stewart, McKenzie Garman, Everett Garman, Lynn Varhley, and Amelia Garman. Being a Nana was one of her most valued gifts in life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Charlotte Dupler; her daughter, Tammy Sue Bauer; and her husband, Larry Garman.
A celebration of life will be held in her honor on May 30th at 3:00 PM at Chubby’s Grill in Clancy, MT.
Jan’s love, laughter, and adventurous spirit will live on in all of us—especially every time we hear the words, “Let’s go have fun.”

Oh Mandy and family, I can hear Jan’s voice and laughter and boy did we have a lot of fun! Those were some of the best days of my life, and memories that I treasure to be a part of that and always knowing she was my friend. She was one of a kind. May all the great memories keep you going as you navigate this world without her. Love to you!

Family,
I remember Jan through our years at Clancy Grade School and beyond; she was a grade ahead of me. Jan was always a great person. While I did not see her so often over the years that followed, we always talked when we saw each other somewhere. Clancy was very small in the late 60’s/early 70’s and everyone knew everyone else. I’m sorry to hear of her passing at such a young age. She will always be a part of my childhood memories of growing up in Clancy.

Dear Amanda, Britney, Kelby, and family,
I am so sorry to hear about Jan’s passing. She was always supportive of her children at Clancy School and was proud of all of you.The journey along the trail of grief is a curvy one with lots of ups and downs, but always remember there are many people that love you and have traveled that path before, that understand and are willing to help you in any way they can.
“Where there is sadness, love plants a garden of memories” and may Jan’s garden bloom profusely!
You are in my thoughts and prayers.
