In Memory Of

Charles D. Simenson, age 89, of Lincoln

June 4, 1936 – January 28, 2026

Charles “Chuck” D Simenson passed away on January 28, 2026, at Crest Nursing Home in Butte due to complications from a stroke. He was 89 years old.

He was born June 4th, 1936, in Wolf Point, MT to Oswald and Cora Simenson. While the family homestead was originally located at Castle Rock, south of Scobey, they moved to Scobey in 1943. After completing his elementary education there, he moved to live with an uncle near Cascade, where he graduated from in 1956. During his high school years, he was very active in basketball, football, and track. Following his graduation, he followed in the footsteps of his two older brothers, Clarence and Maynord, and enlisted in the Navy.

In his younger years, Chuck worked at ranches in Philipsburg and Cascade, but law enforcement was in his blood. He served in various positions across several counties including Powell, Granite, Cascade and Lewis & Clark.

In 1960, Chuck Married Shirley McKinnis and embraced her three children as his own- Debbie, Monty, and Mark. Although Chuck and Shirley later divorced, he remained a constant and proud presence in their lives. He shared a lifelong bond of mutual love with the children and their families.

In 1977, Chuck was transferred from Helena Sheriff’s Department to Lincoln to serve as resident deputy. It was there that he met Cynthia “Cindy” Shandy, and they were married in Lincoln on August 26, 1978. At the time of his passing Chuck and Cindy had been married 47 years. They resided in the same home that they purchased together 47 years ago.

Chuck served as Deputy in Lincoln for 10 years before transitioning to Fort Harrison, where he worked in both security and with the fire department for another decade. Following his retirement, he spent 35 years enjoying life as a “snowbird”, heading south every year to escape the winter months.

Outside of his professional life, Chuck had a variety of passions including horses, motorcycles, piloting his plane, playing pool and watching “Cops” the television show and the Cowboy Channel.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents Oswald and Cora Simenson, brother Clarence, and his first wife Shirley.

Chuck is survived by his wife Cindy; stepchildren: Debbie (Bill) Hogan of Roberts, MT, Monty of Columbus, MT, and Mark (Pam) of Chinook, MT; brothers: Maynord of Mesa, AZ, and Harry of Spokane, WA. Seven Grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.

While the dust has settled on this earth, Chuck’s spirit now gallops freely in a place where horses never tire, and the skies are forever blue. Ride safe cowboy, your patrol is over.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 6, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Community Hall in Lincoln. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice. You may also share condolences with the family at awsfuneralhome.com. The ashes will be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery in Cascade, MT at a date that is currently undetermined.

My Montana Cowboy rides herd while conversing with Mark. It’s a picture that Cindy gave us some years ago
And Holds many memories! We have known Cindy and Chuck for all their years at Coach Stop RVPark. He enjoyed playing pool with Russ GARLAND every day.
A quiet man he often spoke of Cindy; a great day when she joined him at the park. Our prayers go with you P/J
