Obituary for Mathew Edwin Buckley
Mathew Edwin Buckley, of Helena, Montana, passed away on February 9th at the age of 50.
He was born and raised in Helena, he graduated from Capital High School. After graduating he enlisted in the United States Army as a 14 Series Air Defense Artillery Specialist. Throughout his military career, he was stationed at Fort Hood and Fort Riley as well as served overseas in Korea, along with multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. His dedication to service did not end with the military. After completing his active-duty service, he continued supporting fellow service members and the mission abroad as a civilian contractor in Iraq and Afghanistan before eventually returning home to the United States.
He was a man who embraced life fully and traveled the world during his years of service. Along the way, he discovered a love for tattooing, an art form that allowed him to express his creativity and connect with others. Those who knew him will remember his strength, resilience, sense of humor, and stories he carried from the many places he had been.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John R. Buckley, Glenda C. Davidson and her husband Bruce Davidson.
He is survived by his children, Jonathan, Scarlett, and Bridgett; his aunts and uncles; and many cousins, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.
His life was marked by service, adventure, and individuality. He will be remembered for his commitment to his country, his passion for his craft, and his contagious sense of humor that brought laughter wherever he went, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who knew and loved him.
Services will be held at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery- Fort Harrison, Ft. Harrison Mt. on Thursday February 19th, 2026, at 10:30 am in the shelter. Luncheon to follow at the VFW in East Helena, immediately following military honors.
