In Memory Of

Melody Ann (Rominger) Sawyer, age 63, of Helena

April 21, 1962 – February 17, 2026

Melody Ann (Rominger) Sawyer 63

On the morning of February 17th, Melody passed away at Elkhorn Health and Rehabilitation in Clancy, MT from complications of dementia, stroke and other health challenges.

Melody was born April 21st, 1962, in Havre, MT; she was the fourth child and third daughter of Barbara Williams and Gordon Rominger. A beautiful blue eyed red head.

Despite her Down Syndrome she managed an education and received a Havre High School diploma. She enjoyed participating in the Montana Special Olympics, even making a trip to New York to compete in gymnastics; she was very flexible. She loved 60’s and 70’s music and television, especially the Osmonds traveling to Salt Lake and Billings to see them at concerts.

After high school she moved to Helena, MT and became involved with Spring Meadow Resources first in a group home but eventually independent living.

She had several jobs in Helena boxing groceries, Helena Industries (manufacturing backpacks) and busing tables at McDonalds. Her happy attitude and outgoing personality made her a favorite among customers and employers; a distinction she enjoyed her entire life. She was very easy to get along with and help.

On November 23rd, 1996, Melody married the love of her life Karl Sawyer. She and Karl could be seen walking everywhere in Helena as neither drove. They spent 22 years together until his death. Karl was a great caretaker after Melody’s first stroke.

Melody was preceded in death by her mother Barb, father Gordy, sister Charlene and husband Karl.

She is survived by sister Marcia Mueller (Jim) Lincoln, NE, brother Alan Belgrade, MT, niece Heidi Springer Lincoln, NE, niece Heather Mueller Lincoln, NE and nephew Michael Mueller (Lisa)Lincoln, NE

Cremation has taken place; Melody’s ashes will be placed next to Karl’s at Helena Sunset Memorial Gardens in the Spring.

The family would like to thank Spring Meadow Resources for the guidance and care they provided Melody for most of her adult life and Elkhorn Health and Rehabilitation for providing care and a home for her final two years.
