Glen Taylor McCracken passed away at 81 years old on June 17, 2011 in St. Peter\u2019s Hospital in Helena, Montana following a major stroke. Glen was born on December 17, 1929 to Mary Ester Scott and Dwight Taylor McCracken in Chillicothe, Missouri. Glen\u2019s love of the outdoors started early with duck and deer hunting trips with his father.<\/p>\n
Glen married Marianna Stevens on December 27, 1952 in Oelwein, Iowa. Together Glen and Marianna had three sons, Steven Taylor McCracken of Great Falls, Michael Scott McCracken of Pottstown, Pennsylvania, and William Mark McCracken of Seattle, Washington. For the first years of their marriage, Glen worked as a salesman for his father. In 1958, Glen started work at IBM, where he continued to work for over 30 years, until he retired. Glen\u2019s work with IBM took the family to Iowa, Illinois, Ohio, and Alaska. At all stops along the way, Glen instilled a love and appreciation for the outdoors in his family through backpacking, camping, hunting and fishing trips.<\/p>\n
Glen and Marianna retired to Bend, Oregon, where they spent ten years. During that time, Glen was an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. In 2000, Glen and Marianna moved to Montana City, Montana to be closer to family and the great outdoors. Glen enjoyed the Montana City community, followed Montana state politics, and spent as much time as possible in Montana\u2019s rivers and mountains up until his passing.<\/p>\n
Glen left behind by the large and loving family he spent his life creating and nuturing. Glen is survived by Marianna, his loving wife of 58 years, and his brother Scott McCracken of Des Moines, Iowa. Glen is also survived by his three sons Steve, Mike, and Bill, two daughters-in-law BJ McCracken of Great Falls and Jane McCracken of Pottstown, Pennsylvania, and five grandchildren Rachael McCracken and Caitlin McCracken of Los Angeles, California and Lesley McCracken, Taylor McCracken, and Gregory McCracken of Pottstown, Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n
A memorial service celebrating Glen\u2019s life will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at 1:30 pm at Covenant United Methodist Church, 2230 East Broadway Street, with Pastor Dave Andersen presiding. Glen will be interred in Riverton, Iowa with his parents, overlooking some of his favorite duck hunting grounds, at a later date.
