She recalled climbing onto the Abraham Lincoln Memorial statue as a young girl. A few years later her family moved to Monroe Michigan. She enjoyed living there and playing with friends in the city park that had a large statue of General George Armstrong Custer. She climbed on that statue too. Her family had to move again to Ferndale Michigan then ending up in Flint Michigan where she graduated from St Mary’s Catholic High School. Following high school graduation she was employed by the Buick Motor Division. Besides secretarial duties she was picked to be a model posing with the new cars introduced each year at the annual car show. It was during this time that Alice and a few friends would vacation at a popular dude ranch called the Jack and Jill. It was there that she developed a crush on a guy that worked at the ranch named Bill Harvey. Bill must have felt the same way because he asked Alice to marry him several times before she finally agreed. They were married on October 26, 1957, at St. Mary’s Church in Flint Michigan. She was 23 years old. Their honeymoon comprised of packing up the car and moving to Helena, Montana where Alice’s parents and young brother John now lived. Bill and Alice moved to a small ranch and began a family that grew to five children. With horses, cows, chickens, dogs, cats and five kids her plate was quite full as a homemaker. She made valuable life-long friends with neighbors during her time on the ranch. Alice and Bill had fun times going to dances, rodeos, playing cards, skiing, horse races and camping on many summer weekends. Bill and Alice decided to give up the ranch life and move to town after a few years as the commute to get the kids to all the school, sports and social functions got to be too difficult and they were able to move into a bigger home.

Alice then worked part time jobs at the Montana Newspaper Association, Department of Transportation and the Census Bureau. To help with family finances, Alice became queen of coupons. Sometimes she collected enough coupons that she would proudly drive to the grocery store and fill a cart full of groceries and pay nothing or almost nothing. The cashier probably dreaded seeing mom in line as well as the customers behind her. Alice took up tennis around the age of 38 and began a life-long love of the sport following in her father’s footsteps. She garnered some awards and tournament trophies as well as years of great experiences and friendships along the way. Golf was also a passion later in life. Alice was a devout Catholic. She was proud of her family and grateful to have been able to have relationships and attend activities with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Alice loved to tell jokes, laugh and reminisce about the past. She once wrote that each of her children was her favorite at one time or another but they exchanged places a lot.

Alice is preceded in death by her parents, loving husband of 53 years William (Bill) Harvey, brother Robert Loiselle, infant daughter Maryann, son-in-law Thomas Clinch, and close cousin Russ Harvey.

She is survived by her brother John (Judy) Reddy, children Mike (Lisa) Harvey, Dave Harvey, Paula Clinch, Karen (Larry) Ferguson and Bob Harvey all of Helena. Grandchildren: Justin Harvey (Jordan Conley), Hannah Harvey, Tara Harvey, Kristin Filcher (Jeff), Lauren Clinch Cullings (Josh), Ryan Clinch, Jacob Ferguson, Lucas Ferguson (Shayla), Scott Ferguson, Bryce Harvey (Katie Miller) and Dava Harvey as well as eight great grandchildren and one on the way.

In addition, she is survived by special extended family members, nephew Joe Reddy and family, Heather Pedersen, Arlene Harvey and sons Randall and Casey, Michael Groom and family as well as cousins, nieces and nephews in Michigan and Massachusetts.

Thank you to Touchmark Memory Care and Enhabit Hospice for their dedicated care.
