John survived World War II.\u00a0 He came to the United States in 1962 being sponsored by Boyd\u2019s Chocolates. John became a US Citizen in 1967 and was very proud to be an American.<\/p>\n<p>He had two sons, Eric Sterling, lives in West Virginia and Thijes Schouten (Deceased).\u00a0 John is survived by four grandchildren through marriage who adored him.\u00a0 Elisha and Lisa Desjardins of Yucca Valley, CA and Adrian and Madison Driggs from Eugene, OR.<\/p>\n<p>He is survived by his wife, Ellie, who will always remember the smell of sweet peas all over our yard that Slim grew just for her.<\/p>\n<p>There will be a memorial for Slim in Lincoln at a later date after New Year\u2019s.
