She was born, April 13, 1935, married May 23, 1966. A life well lived.

Shirley was a nurturer. Her journey through life was filled with caring for others, from her children and family, to friends and neighbors. Anyone who came in contact with her was blessed.

Shirley was also a nurturer to the earth and loved the outdoors. Weeds didn’t stand a chance and her gladiolas and canning won top honors at the county fair many times. The garden produced enough food for the family and many neighbors and friends. Nothing ever went to waste. Shirley was also an avid hunter and fisherman. She often showed up her grandchildren with her skills.

Although she will be missed as we continue on without her, we know she is no longer trapped in a body that wouldn’t keep up with what she wanted to do. Shirley, her parents, and her sister have had a glorious reunion where there is no pain.

The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Weiner, and the beautiful staff at St. Peter’s Cancer Clinic, the caring staff of St. Peter’s third floor, and the loving staff of Elkhorn Health and Rehabilitation Center. You made Shirley’s challenge as loving and pleasant as anyone could.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 44 years, Jerry; daughter Vicki (Ed) Kaufman; son Tim (Lucy) Carlson; grandchildren Cheri and Marc Stockert, Mike Kaufman, Marie and Nick Spain, and Kyle Madison.

Cremation has taken place. Services will be held at a later date. Anyone wishing to remember Shirley by helping others may make a donation to St. Peter’s Hospital Cancer Center, St. Peter’s Hospital 3rd floor, 2475 Broadway, Helena, MT 59601; Elkhorn Health and Rehabilitation Center, 474 Hwy 282, Clancy, MT 59634 or the charity of one’s choice.
