In Memory Of

Janie Irene Sandifer, age 84, of Helena

April 27, 1942 – April 28, 2026

On the morning following Janie Irene Sandifer’s 84th birthday celebration with family and friends, her Savior came. She passed away suddenly but peacefully while visiting with her loving friend Jennie. She spent the last three years of her life residing at the Masonic Home of Helena Montana surrounded by loving and caring staff. Her daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Dave Rau, provided unwavering care for her and visited routinely to see to her needs.

Janie Irene Arnold was born on the historic 7J Ranch near Mapleton Texas on April 27, 1942. She was the eldest daughter and second child of six children born to Frances Irene Peterson and Joe Harvey Arnold. She attended elementary school in Austonio and Alvin Texas and graduated in 1960 from John Foster Dulles High School in Missouri City Texas. After high school she attended art school and worked in the Houston area as a bookkeeper where she met and married her sweetheart, Robert G. Sandifer, on June 16, 1961. They had two children and she became a stay-at-home mom and homemaker.

Janie Irene was a native of Houston County, Texas and lived most of her young adult life in Mapleton, Texas and the Creek community. She moved to Helena, Montana in 1998 to be near her daughter and family, a place she loved and resided at for the last 28 years. She had a kind, caring and loving spirit. She never met a stranger and would say hello to anyone she encountered. She would give of herself and do anything she could for her family. She was a beloved Mother, Grandmother and friend and will forever be missed.

Janie Irene was preceded in death by her brother, George Earl Arnold; her father, Joe Harvey Arnold and her mother, Frances Irene Arnold.

Janie Irene is survived by her son Robert (Wanda) of New Braunfels Texas, her daughter Tammy (Dave) of Helena, Montana; sister Ada (Sam) of Houston Texas; brother Tommy (Mackie) of Rosharon, Texas; brother Jimmy (Trish) of Refugio, Texas; sister Edna (Marshall) of Crockett, Texas; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and numerous other family and friends.
